Beijing Aerospace Propulsion Institute , subordinate to China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, was founded in 1958. The institute is the birthplace of China’s liquid rocket engines. Now, the institute owns over 1100 employees, among whom there is 1 academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and more than 50 experts are over ministerial level who enjoy special government allowances. It has won 5 National Prizes for Progress in Science and Technology, and more than 200 over-ministerial-level scientific and technological achievements. The institute has the right to confer doctor and master degrees of astronautic and aerospace propulsion theory and engineering specialty, and a postdoctoral research station.

With 50 years of self-reliant and innovative development in China aerospace, the institute has developed many liquid engine rockets for launch vehicles, forming four advanced technologies of main propulsion stage engines, advanced upper stage engines, orbit and altitude control engines and new energies and their applications.
Since the early 1980s, based on the advanced technology of liquid rocket engine, the institute was committed to technological innovation and commercial operation. The institute set up the company – “Beijing Aerospace Petrochemical Technology and Equipment Engineering Corporation Limited.” (BAPC) as the window to civil industry, which is also one of the most powerful companies in the Chinese combustion engineering, fluid control and transportation field. The company has five divisions, separately specialized in special valve, safety valve, fluid and rotary machinery and thermal engineering, which mainly provide services of turnkey project of special valves, special pumps, combustion thermal energy equipment and unit project. The company is a member of the resource market of Sinopec, CNPC, and CNOOC, and the excellent supplier of key petrochemical enterprises like Yizheng Chemical Fiber Corporation, Qilu Petrochemical, Jinling Petrochemical and Hainan Refinery. “BAPC” has become a famous brand in petrochemical field and a banner of applying advanced aerospace technology to the key industrial areas of national economy. Relying on the innovation platform of “National Engineering Technology Research Center for Special Pumps and Valves”, the company focuses on technological innovation and industrialization development for special pumps and valves.
